Wondering where those new neighbors came from in the U-Haul truck?

With summer moving season at its peak, chances are you have seen a U-

Haul moving truck pull into your neighborhood in recent weeks. After all,

nearly half of all residential moves in a calendar year occur between

Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.


So where did the new neighbors’ trip originate? We can render a pretty

good guess. As part of our migration trends news-sharing campaign, we looked

at one-way U-Haul truck transactions for the first half of 2024. More specifically,

we considered the 25 most populated U.S. cities – according to the latest

U.S. Census reports – and where U-Haul traffic arriving in those markets

originated.


Here are the top origins for U-Haul do-it-yourself customers pulling into

the most populated cities (and their metro areas) to give you an idea of

where your new neighbors may have previously called home:

Charlotte
